On this page, projects from my EDU 520: Digitally Mediated Teaching and Learning coursework are included.
My classmates and I developed a wiki about digital citizenship, focusing on Digital Access, Digital Health and Wellness, and Digital Communication.
This project involved collaborative learning unlike anything I have done before. Collaborative learning is beneficial to students learning outcomes as it lends itself to multiple viewpoints and approaches. Having the opportunity to work with like-minded professionals to create this website was not only enjoyable, but we were able to learn from one another. As an educator, I have always heard about Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development model, which states “a learner’s cognitive development is highly dependent on direct interactions with an expert, yet knowledge creation is a shared experience” (Rutherford, 2014) We worked jointly through the project from start to finish to make this finished product, which we are all very proud of. Despite the fact that the entire project was computer supported, I still felt that collaborating with my peers facilitated support and interaction and made me feel like I was supported during the learning process.
