EDU 632: Learning Management Systems

As an educator who worked through the COVID-19 pandemic, I quickly learned the value of a good learning management system. I used Google Classroom religiously to keep my students learning, and keep organized. Truth be told, my experience with Learning Management Systems are what inspired me to pursue my Master’s degree in Educational Technology. I was simply overwhelmed by the number of teachers who felt they were unprepared for the shift in the sheer volume of technology use that the COVID-19 pandemic called for. The COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t just something that redefined education for a short while. It was a powder-keg event of epic proportions that accelerated innovation and called for more sustainable models of education, and models of education that could perhaps one day call for a hybrid approach. That is where I feel a good LMS comes into play. It can, in many settings, bridge the gap between the home and brick and mortar educational institutions.

This course equipped me with not only the tools required to use a LMS, but also taught me how to evaluate them. A well-thought out and user-friendly LMS can really make a positive difference in an educational environment, when used for the right reasons.
